  • 1st to 2nd gear

Mine has done 20,000 miles now its the smoothest gear change Ive had. Much better than the Vectra box which was a pain between 1st and 2nd.

Yours will still be very tight due to the low miles.

I can go miles with it being fine and then all of a sudden it is hard to get into gear. Mine is at 23,000 miles. Was fine up to a couple of months ago. I also suspect adjustment issues but i bet they dont see it when I take it in. Maybe it is just me but I have also found the clutch stiff the first time when I depress it after a long run up the motorway.

I used to get the stiff clutch after a run on the motorway with my old Vectra. It never seemed to cause a problem in the 50,000 miles i did in the car. Even towing a caravan for thousands of miles.

I dont get this with the Insignia though mate.

As above. I drive to work every day and my car never gets fully warmed up in this weather.

But having driven to York over the weekend the car felt brilliant. With smooth gear changes etc.

It has to be the cable. The shift on mine is spot on.

The difference in gear ratio between 1st and 2nd is quite large, which tends to a make a smooth change more difficult, even if there are no other issues.

The gearboxes fitted to pre-2013 cars seem to have been prone to gear linkage adjustment problems. Any hint of clutch drag will also make a smooth change more difficult.

On my previous car, a 2010 2.0 CDTi 160 SRi, I found that changing from 1st to 2nd was easiest almost as soon as the car was moving. Something like 10-15mph, around 1500 rpm. It helped to move the gearshift in a deliberate action from 1st to 2nd, rather than trying to "snatch" the change.
