  • MOT Fail

    Hi all,

not sure if it’s the right section but put my car in for an MOT early today.

Last one runs out in Jan 2022 but didn’t fancy forking out for one just after Xmas.

well today it failed because rear near side handbrake is inoperative.

it’s going in on Monday to have either a new caliper or cable, whatever it is.

is my old MoT still valid just to get me through till Monday and re test next week?

online it states it failed today but still says valid until January 2022.

bit of a grey area as I’m reading no, don’t drive it and Yes, it’s fine.

Lovely, that’s all I wanted to know.

thanks guys. I have use of a 2019 Mazda CX-5 but it’s horrible, Fuel consumption is attrocious. So looks like I’m stuck with that until next week

Existing MoT is still valid until the expiry date.

          https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test

          Driving a vehicle that’s failed

You can take your vehicle away if:
          • your current MOT certificate is still valid
          • no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT

ahh ok. I’ve just got Repair immediately. Turns out to be the caliper and there under warranty so I’ll Chuck it on Monday.

Repair immediately is a major defect but doesn't stop you driving (from an MoT perspective).

The fault could still result in being reported by the police for using a vehicle in an unroadworthy condition, but there wouldn't be an MoT offence.
