My niece got an insignia last year. The timing belt went doing a lot of damage, she was told Vauxhall had stopped making the parts because they were faulty, does anyone know if this is true or anything about this. She was told it would cost over 3,000 to fix.

I’m sorry, I don’t have an answer for you but could you get a second hand engine? Must be a hell of a lot less than £3k..

that's a load of tosh mate............parts are still readily available....if not from VX then from motor factors.

the insignia is one of the most popular cars on the road - too much money to be made from them.

but...it would help if you let us know what's she's been quoted for.

playing the guessing game only costs money.

Yeah, but depending on where the OP is, I'm sure someone could suggest a garage where they won't get shafted.

Can you be a bit more specific than Glasgow, OP? What area of the city are you in?

Isn’t it normally the rocker arms that break on these when the cam belts go?

if they're quoting £3k, then its cheaper to get a replacement engine.

Don't think we know what engine we are talking about, or did I miss it?

                        2 therorys behind this ,
                        1) there's a thread on here by MR insigniawithproblems bless him he thaught it was a case of lifters and arms and valves .and he is still no closer to an end .so that figure may be correct.
                        2) dose anyone know what speed the car was doing when the bell went ? It could of caused piston damage as well .
So that figure could be about right.
But as drew status we know very little
But if you're mystic meg which some may claim to be .then so be it .
