Hello.
So excuse me for sounding like a alien.
But you brought a satnav update for a CD 800
And you have a CD 500 system.
I always thought the updates were persific for the exact model you are updating
Ie cd 500 disc for CD ,,500
Etc .
I may be wrong
But everyday is a school day ?
And the car is an astra .

I know the specifics may be the same......so wouldn't it be better joining an astra forum and finding out from them???

Hello Geebz we are a friendly forum
and welcome everyone.
and yes the systems are the same
from what I can remember you delete old maps to free up space
run CD go into map menu choose the map you want and allow it to load into head unit
best bet is to take car for a drive .
thats if it's going to work .
but that's all I know ..
the only issue I can see is a compatibility issue .

Small update to just say it worked i made the mistake of just thinking all i had to do was insert disc and it would detect and auto update, no Lizard is nearly right in that you just go to add/delete map on menu and it'll warn about maps inserted(disc) is from another version but go ahead and it deletes old and installs new map.
Disc i had was Europe and GB so i could choose which area i wanted map for and it shows how much memory is left should i choose more than 1 area too.

You only have a small amount of space on the unit, UK and Ire is about all you will squeze on.
When I go over to France, I just put the disk in the drive and it reads from the disk when in France. Once I'm there I usually delete the UK map and load the France one.
Bit of a faff, but if your not leaving the UK just leave the UK and ire loaded in and put the disk in the glove box.
