So £135 labour in total for alternator and driveshaft oil seal. Can’t moan at that. £230 in total for alternator, driveshaft oil seal and a gearbox oil top up.

          Hi all.

Had a issue with my alternator too.

Naturally I've learned a fair amount over the years so decided to see if I could find the issue.

It's a new battery so I wasn't suspecting that but the other day it was flat so left it on charge overnight and popped it back in the car.

I monitors the battery voltage in which the car would drop down to 12.5 volts after a few minutes at most and remain there with some fluctuations.

I rechecked the cables from the battery to the alternator. Some had a shiny surface to them so I gave them a little file.

Early days but so far hasn't budged from.14.7 volts for the last couple of hours of driving and the battery has gone from 12.6 when the cars off to 13.1.

if battery going flat sounds like parasitic battery drain, should be about 20-40ma when asleep

                  Yeah your right.

Was a hardwire kit I left in as was linked to both acc and perm.

Just wondering though my alternator keeps dropping down to 13.5 now. Unsure if this is a alternator fault or the battery. Getting mixed stories with some saying it's the smart alternator and others blaming the battery.

                    I
My car has smart charging and on the
Head unit display you can see it ranges from 14volts high to 11 volts low at certain conditions.
You just Lern to ignore anything and just know that its doing exactly what its supposed to do .

I too have the battery voltage set to the digital display in-between the rev counter and speedo. The voltage can range from 13.1v to 15.1v when its really cold. I was worried at 1 point because i always believed that 14.4 should be the highest which is probably true on older cars but with the smart charging system its ok to have high and low readings.

If there was an issue with the alternator/ charging, the battery light would come on or throw a fault code
