  • Door open warning :-(

So the little door open sign has come on permanently on the dash, indicating rear o/s door (NOT the side I had the leak on!)

Slamming the door repeatedly doesn't help... have done a search, but the only thing people seem to suggest is a connector in the A pillar?

What do you reckon - anybody had this?

Is the connector easily accessible? I hate doing this sort of thing

    Or any other suggestions... thanks

I’d say it’s a wiring/switch issue. The connector is accessible with the door open you should be able to see the bit of rubber trunking that holds all the wires in. I believe but don’t quote me on this you can unplug the connect from the outside and then you can check it for broken wires and secure connections

It would be on the B pillar if its O/S/R .if its anything like the normal multiplugs you lift the red tab and it detaches
But as gizzard says the problem is probably in the lock mechanism .

Thanks. Is the mech in the door or the bodywork? Hard to get out?

I vaguely remember doing this on a Beemer many years ago, and it was nearly impossible to stop it falling down inside the bodywork when you attempted to remove the bolts...

Well. Now this has been an interesting day. In another thread (don't bother, it's boring), I mentioned trying to get a spare remote/key made. The new one worked fine, except that using the 3rd button to unlock the boot got the horn blowing.

Today I went back to the key shop, and he spent well over an hour trying to fix it, but eventually had to use a different type of flip key, which worked fine.

And... the Door Open light has gone out

Of course, knowing my luck it'll be back, but... and when I do trigger alarm (eg by leaving the boot unlocked for too long before raising it), the alarm is a kind of beeper - NOT the horn which I was getting before #nhappy

More evidence of modern car electronics being too clever for their own good...

Well, as so often seems to be the case with cars, my triumph was short-lived - the door open sign came back next day. I took out an expensive extended warranty when I bought this car - something I'd never normally do, but I just thought with all the complex electronics, auto box etc... anyway, I got the mechanic to put a new lock in that door. He also checked the wiring/connectors etc, and pronounced them sound.

So now, the door open warning has gone out - but now neither of the rear doors brings it on when the doors ARE open!

What do you reckon - BCU?

Forget it .how much is this door open warning thing going to cost you.
If you drive around with your doors open then you will have no rear doors to worry about when they get knocked off .
This is turning into war and peace this.

Yeah… thing is though, various electronics in this car have always acted strangely from time to time. So, for example, the smaller “infotainment” display in the main dash will spontaneously change from where I left it (Info) to something else, eg Audio.

And sometimes the cruise control doesn't lock to the speed I’m doing now, but instead goes to a previous one which was used.

I suspect (not absolutely certain, mechanic might have done it and I didn’t notice for days, which would be odd) that the driver’s seat moved from my chosen position. I have the settings in memory, but… and now the rear n/s window doesn't work…

So I’m not overly bothered about the doors, as long as the warning lights stay off. It’s more that it might indicate a deeper problem
