  • Car in Limp Home Mode - error codes?

Look, I realise this is a length-of-piece-of-string question, but I have to try before spending a fortune at the garage...

So yesterday I was driving along, and got a message about servicing the car soon. A little while later, it went into Limp Mode - so almost zero power, couldn't get it over about 30mph. No more messages, warning lights on the dash etc.

Got where I was going, and headed back home about an hour later, during which the car went normally. Fine today as well.

I only have a crappy little scanner (was fine for the ancient Rover 75 I had before), but it recorded the following codes. I've added descriptions of the codes from various websites, but they seem to vary a lot from site to site...

    Yesterday:

    P223B – O2 sensor?
    B2013 – ???
P0000 – powertrain, but could be anything. Article above says ambient air temperature sensor?
P0007 – Fuel Shutoff Valve A Ctrl Circ Hi?
U2802 – Engine Oil Temperature Sensor. Or glow plug??
    C0700 – PROBABLY MAF sensor?

    Today:

    P220E – NOx Sensor Heater Control Circuit Range/Performance, Bank 1 Sensor 1?
U0800 – Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit. Possibly?
P0000 – powertrain, but could be anything. Article above says ambient air temperature sensor?
P0007 – Fuel Shutoff Valve A Ctrl Circ Hi?
U2802 – Engine Oil Temperature Sensor. Or glow plug??
    C0700 – PROBABLY MAF sensor?

So I'm not asking for a comprehensive description of these codes - I realise that's impossible on a forum.

But... I wonder if the car might have something more fundamental wrong with it, like a dodgy earth somewhere? Since I've had it (about 18 months now, but only covered about 12,000 miles in that time) it's occasionally done random electrical things, like the Infotainment system changing from DAB to FM, or radio to navigation, or the little LCD display between the clocks changing from Info to Audio, etc etc.

What do you reckon? I've seen suggestions about disconnecting the battery for ½ an hour... worth doing? What settings will I lose if I do this?

    Hi there.
I'm afraid I can't help you with your fault codes, but I think it's worth trying a battery reset anyway. No harm. And as far as I know, you won't lose any settings. The car might only ask you to move the door windows, one after the other and that's it.
But if you had the service soon message and she went to limp mode, it certainly means the DPF is almost clogged.

Battery disconnected as we speak! Surprised it might be the DPF? A fair bit of my mileage is motorway, so I didn't think that would happen? Or if it did, isn't there a DPF warning light??

A lot of electrical gremlins can point to a failing battery

Yes, it asked me to open and close the driver's window - all seems normal apart from that.

Except...now the boot opening switch doesn't work angry

Funny, the button on the key fob opens it though confused

No specific warning light, only the "service soon" message, as far as I know.
Do you notice the auto regen signs some time to time? High idle speed and high instantaneous fuel consumption?

So I've never seen that light. But yes, occasionally it does idle high (I usually have the info display set on average consumption, so don't know about high instantaneous consumption I'm afraid).

The high idle is only 100rpm higher than normal - do you still think that might be what's happening?

Anyway, I'm going to visit the main dealer today to see about a diagnostic - God knows what I'll have to pay for it - and will post results here if I get them...

Booked in tomorrow for diagnostic at the main dealer.

                Anybody want to guess...?

                £178

"But we check your tyres and everything, you know! And you get a video!!"

                I'm so happy.

I don’t think the insignias have the light.

When mines doing a regen the revs sit around 1100-1200rpm and the instantaneous fuel consumption goes up to around 0.5g/hr. You can normally smell the extra fuel that’s being pumped in as well.
have you not got the regen light fitted? One of the simplest and best not to mention cheap mods you can do to the car.

dealer price for a diagnostic is an hour+vat so your looking at over £100 for it. But it should be up a code for dpf but common one is - P2543-5A, that’s for the pressure sensor which is a known failure

Thanks, that's interesting. The little screen shot I put in above is out of my Insignia manual, but I suppose that's no guarantee of anything...

Normally she idles at 900, then 1000 when running high. No smell!

Must try and find out if she has one or not... is there a how to on here to fit one, if not?

Generic book they are I’d say, the vehicle handbooks we used to provide at bmw had everything printed and was down to the build spec to decide what was relevant in them.

it’s possible that that’s the regen. Easiest way is the instantaneous fuel consumption.

I’ll find the thread and post a link for you.

Update: I just checked, and you're quite right - mine doesn't have the light angry

Here's where it is, according to the manual, but nothing there on mine. Or at least it doesn't light up like all the others when you turn the car on...

                          Here’s the link

G’day All, took the step today of installing a led light to show when my Insignia is performing a DPF Regeneration so thought I would share my install. The point of installing the led light is so you have a visible notification when the Insignia is performing the all important DPF Regen, reducing the chances of switching

another possible code is P2543-57 DPF regeneration time. This points to failed regens and parameters not being met so it can’t complete one when necessary

There is no warning light on the insignia

You have to fit an led into the car and tap into the rear heated window circuit.

I've made that mod, found on this forum (thanks), red LED connected to heated driver mirror. Very usefull, I don't miss any auto regen now. On mine, when regenarating, the idle is around 1200RPM, instant fuel consumption around 3,5l/100 (I'm in France) plus cooling fan on plus sometimes strong heat smell . It made me afraid the first time I had to deal with that.
I hardly use the car but it makes an auto regen may be once a month. Never seen it on motorway (?)
