  • Glow Plug Relay/ Control Unit 2016 2.0 DTH CDTI 170BHP VX Line (location)

    Hi everyone

    Urgent help please !

For the life of me I cannot find my Glow Plug Relay/ Control Unit on my Insignia.

The part I have is 55574293 which is alledgedly the right part for my car, but I cannot find it at all

Any thoughts/ help with this would be really welcome as its a nightmare to start in these cold mornings

I can see on older models, (via Google images & Youtube clips) this part is/ was positoned at the front of the battery.....It's definitely isn't on mine.

Basically, all my Glow Plugs are working, but the it appears there is no signal/ heat getting to them & I have been advised by my local Motor Factors that this is likely due to a defective relay/ control unit hence the need to replace it

Or it could be that VX changed this to a simple relay in the Fuse/ Relay box next the battery I need to replace instead??? I do have the "Whisper Engine"....Just a thought chaps

    Many thanks & best wishes,

    Kev

PS, this picture is an example of the position of the unit on an older engine which is not the same as mine

Some model the glowplug relay is actually built into the engine ecu,
        Is that A20 or B20?

the LFS engine is confirmed as ECM taking on the role as glow plug controller

The part number you have been quoted is for the A20 engine only such as.

            A20DTC[LCD],A20DTL[LBQ],A20DTJ[LBX],A20DT[LBR],A20DTE[LHV],A20DTH[LBS],Y20DTH[LBS],Z20DTH[LBS],A20DTR[LBY] DIESEL ENGINES

Many thanks for this Plasma.....Any ideas or thoughts on how I can remedy this? Failing that, anyone want to buy a lovely Asteroid Grey Insignia with 88,500 on the clock!

                  Is there a temperature sensor
To activate the control module side of the ECU for the glow plugs?
Have you had a code reader on the car to see what codes ( if any ) are stored? That would be my first port of call before condemning the car .

Thanks for you inputs chaps. All is not necessary lost. Plugs 3 & 4 are showing high resistance (12 OHMS & THEN 14OHMS when cranking) which suggests 3 & 4 might have failed?....Albeit, I am not getting any fault codes or messages on the Reader or a "Service Vehicle Soon" warning on the dash? Thanks, Kev

Have you tested them with a multimeter just to make sure.

3 and 4 are definitely wrong, they should read ~ 1ohm

                          Hi all

Thanks for the advice & comments here.....

Took a punt & changed ALL Glow Plugs last week & hey presto, it's starting/ running perfectly again.

Luckily, I don't have the pressured type, so £18.29 x 4 later & 10 mins to fit, it's job done. So huge thanks again to all.
