  • Timing belt

Time to go to an Indy. The labour will be half of that

I thought ?1500 sounded excessive for timing belts, even on a V6. That would be about 2 - 2.5 days at ?80/hour.

I looked up the V6 engine on PartsBase, to find that it actually has timing chains and not belts. So, it will be a fairly major job to replace them, and the parts probably wont be that cheap either. From the diagram, the chains are of the "silent" or Hy-Vo type, and appear to be tensioned hydraulically.

I would think that the chain guides and tensioner shoes would probably need replacing at the same time.

I think the dealer was a bit less than entirely honest. Or doesn't know what they are talking about.
