  • Insignia sri still wont start

So a few weeks ago, my father give me some diesel 20 litres out of a jerry can, i filled up got two mile down the road and the insignia just stalled and cut out. Wont restart. Things the mechanic has tried. Checked timing and cambelt, rail sensor, fuel pump, crankshaft sensor and all are good. Tried easy start and it will fire straight up and run a few seconds and cut out again. He says this rules out timing etc and its defo fuel related. He put a new fuel filter on and still the same. So ive asked him to drain the fuel out that i got given from me dad and ive gave him 20 liters of V Power fresh clean diesel. So fingers crossed that will work. There are no errors on dash or ecu. Mechanic says its like the injectors just wont work when you turn the key. Im confused, hes confused. So any suggestions you may have ill appreciate them thead

    Insignia sri 2.0 diesel 91k.

    thank you. John

Gerry can and dirt seem to go together mate.
make sure he blows the pipes out when he's fitting the new filter.
It seems you might have some shite in the pipe.

Gerry cans always point to stolen diesel imo

I've made that mistake before putting fuel in the tank without checking the can, only 2 years ago….I ended up with reconditioned injectors!!!

Hi the jerry can he uses is for his roller at work he has is own buisness, so no its not stolen fuel but yeah ill tell him to clean the lines out. The fuel has no problems getting the injectors as you can feel the pressure and the diesel squirt out when bleeding the system. Mechanic did say its got high fuel pressure at the rail. So changed the sensor and still the same

As far as I know , Rolls Royce, never did diesel powered cars !
so in all essence you were " given " 20 litres of diesel in a Fred can used for a petrol driven Rolls Royce.
2 miles down the road and it conks out ! And won't re-start .
Diesel is a fuel as well as a lubricant, if petrol reaches the pump it can start to cause wear to the pumps internals , the injectors ,
if the car is starting with " Start you Bast##d " then it proves compression is correct , but it doesn't mean that the injectors or the high pressure pump has not been affected.
If the pump is delivering diesel to the injectors , it means it's working , but is it delivering enough pressure?
are the injectors working ? Has he checked to see if they are electronically pulsing ?

Mechanic says injectors pulsing, but on his computer says high fuel pressure. We tried spare key also. He said it seems like the key just arent activating injectors

Get this mechanic to do a leak down test on the injectors.
also if he has a pressure gauge get him to connect it to the fuel rail and record what pressure he has when cranking
has he checked the leak off pipes for splits .
has he tied jacking the back of the car up and cranking it ?
if he is 100 % certain that it's the ecm that's not allowing the injectors to pulse then his next move will be to send the ecm away for testing .then take it from there .
but I do have my doubts.

Hey thank you for your reply, yeah he mentioned today about sending the ecu off to be tested, today i dropped him a new fuel pressure regulater part off, no joy still the same

No i dont believe he has tried jacking the car up. He says the injectors are just not working / firing up when he turns it over

Ill ask him about the leak down test but he says he doesnt think 4 injectors can break all at the same time without any errors

Just out of curiosity when the car cut off was it a straight cut off as if you turned ignition off or did it had erratic idle for a few seconds and then cut off and what exactly did you do after, took it straight to your mechanic or messed a little bit with it before taking it to the mechanic?

Hi, just cut out and wobbled a bit as if i ran out of fuel. So tried to turn it over and just cranked so towed it home then the next day towed it to the garage, I didnt mess with it. I sent it to my mechanic as want it sorting properly as my kids get in it. Thanks

In that case I would get the injectors out and send them for testing, I've had same problem and injectors where blocked/seized same as you I didn't get any codes or any errors and it was down to contaminated fuel…another thing I would get your mechanic to check before taking the injectors out would be the crankshaft sprocket ( the thing that drives the timing belt) cause the timing might look right on the belt and pulley but might be off on the actual shaft, it is what people call a woodruff key that tends to shear, even if it's not that it's worth checking because it's a common problem with insignia and if it has never been changed chances are it will break in the future. Hope you get it sorted soon!

If it's running with easy start then all's well with.the Woodruff key
If he has a test light he can see if the injectors are working rather than using a scan tool .
