Good stuff, let us know how you get on with it. If its a recon box - don't panic if its still a bit notchy - the shift quality on mines (same box, M32) was horrible after a recondition, but it gradually got better with some mileage (took 700 miles to losen up/bed in)

theres no main earth between the chassis and gearbox on mine because its earthed out through the mounting bolts ..the mounts are rubber but the bolts are not .

So gearbox can’t be what’s damaging alternator. I’ve had 2 alternators since gearbox. The first one was faulty and now they have replaced it with a second. I’m not picking car up until they take it for a long test drive with everything on ie aircon, lights, radio. Now since alternator it’s showing abs fault. It wasn’t showing that when I dropped it off. So strange.

That could be the battery being low on charge 0

Yes it's been on only a year but that's a year under constant tension, plus it's been removed a a few times too, I'd be thinking about putting a new one on at least, and maybe checking the tensioner bearings are ok as its a slim possibility they might not be as 'free' as they should be, if you've got the right tools it should only take u about 20 mins

I would be taking it back ,this is a sh1t show .
you paid good money for a repair and the job ant done. Either this garage knows what its doing or its a garage that fixes nothing properly.
Then again maybe I'm seeing this differently from everyone else on here

Story of my life in regards to every garage I ever knew till I finally found some good ones in recent years

There are mechanics that know cars and exactly what they are doing, and then there are jokers that just replace parts and hope for the best!

Hopefully the original poster gets his car sorted soon and lets us know how it goes.

When u say they know what they're doing, is that in the context of they know what they're doing by screwing u over on this? I'd be tempted to go to trading standards over this and get them to pay the vocky main stealer, at least they have half a clue, or take it to lizzard and get him to bill them for it
