Hi all i sold the 2.0 turbo and got a 64 plate 1.8 sri last july i drove it on the drive to change the thermostat gasget and when i tryed to reverse off it would only go into first(no reverse) i tryed a few times and still the same,so i rolled off the drive and drove around the block all the other gears were fine but as i was under the bonnet looking at the levers it then the gear stick decided not to go over to 5th and 6th.i'm lost as to what is wrong??.it looks like there is a module of levers on top of the gearbox that does all the gear changing so i'm wondering if that is the problem as i have looked at the selector in the car and that looks ok.has anyone had this problem before? and can anyone shed some light on what the possible problem is.MANY THANKS ALL

My first thought would be the gear linkage, there may be an obstruction under the gearstick itself, but it very much sounds like either a new box or have ur existing one repaired/reconditioned, it's hard to say with just a description to be honest, maybe if u did a video of said components u mention may help a little, does it do it when the engine is off too?

Typical M32.
it'll probably have shat itself like they do.
They're known as chocolate boxes due to the synchromesh giving up.
You would be better looking for a good 2nd hand box or getting it repaired by the renowned and well respected M32 Guy, but he's based in East Lothian in Scotland.

I figure I need to lock the box using the alignment hole from the engine side - that seems simple enough. Does anyone know where I need to lock the shifter? Is this the same, eg, unclip turn 180 and clip it back in to lock? I have taken an initial
this might help?
