  • Rising oil level, no failed regen, no smoke or warnings

    Hi everyone,

My Wife is the lucky owner of a 2012 cdti 130 that is unfortunately increasing its oil level again. Last time I installed the led mod for regens when doing her oil and filter change. Checked her oil this morning and it’s above max after only a few weeks. Oil is not milky or visibly contaminated.

I’ve seen the light come on and go off during driving so I assume that’s functional. There are no warnings on the dash and no smoke at idle or under load. When she’s home from work I’ll plug it in for codes, saturation levels and pressures and update.

Engine runs sweet as a diesel nut, no knocking or hard starting but I noticed it does have a little oil coming from the boost pipe from inter cooler at the top connector. No noticeable performance loss but if oil can get out so can boost. I’ve ordered a new pipe and I’ll fit that tonight and flush the inter cooler.

Any suggestions as to potential causes?

    Thanks,

    Ian

The boost leak you just mentioned.
Dirty map and maf and EGR .
Split pressure sensor hose . pressure sensor gone wobbler.
As you say get saturation level and last regen carried out .
Also when was oil change done.
    Check injectors as well.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll plug it in when it’s back. Do you know how often it should regen? Even after a good run the led has been known to come on the next day. I’ll ask the Wife to keep a tally of how often the led comes on

        That's very subjective.
The average is about 200 miles.
But at the moment on here there's 2 cars doing less than 100 miles I think and that doesn't sound right to me.

          Update

          Zero engine ecm codes

Average range between regens is 300k

          DPF Sat. Level 50%

MAF, MAP, DPF Pres. and EGR sensors all reading as expected

I’ll do another oil and filter tomorrow and keep an eye on it. A good dose of diesel cleaner wouldn’t hurt the old girl, especially if the injectors are a slightly drippy

Could be worth when you drain the oil to drip some on a clean paper towel. If it’s got a different colour ring around the outside then it’s definitely diesel in the oil.

you haven’t had to top up coolant at all?
