Regen Question

When a diesel Insignia is running a regen, what are the requirements in terms of driving and duration? I've read that engine revs need to be above a certain level - 3000rpm, I think. Does this need to be continuous? For example, if a regen takes twenty minutes would it need an uninterrupted twenty minute drive down the motorway or similar, or could it be ten minutes to the next junction then round the roundabout and back?

Unless you get a message on the dash saying that exhaust cleaning is in progress keep driving then there's no requirement. It will just do its thing. However you should not turn the engine off during a regen, it's best to let it complete the process.
To help spot when it's doing a regen you can fit an led indicator in the drivers door tweeter, there's a thread on this. Otherwise look for revs sitting around 1k rpm (higher than normal idle), you should hear the cooling fans running and if you open the drivers door you'll feel the extra heat and it will smell like it's burning more fuel. If you know it's doing a regen then some higher revs will help clean more soot out but most will complete the process even if it's sat on the drive.
If you do get a message to keep driving thats when it's best to keep revs higher (above 2k rpm) until the message disappears. You can do that by just keeping it in a lower gear. I have only had that message once in my car in 72k miles so it shouldn't be too frequent.

To be honest all this regen voodoo is just that .voodoo .
you don't need to drive it like it's stolen,yes the best way to achieve full regen is to continually drive it till it has completed the cycle.
how long it takes is like a piece of string. it relies on parameters being met .ie engine temperature above 65 Celsius.satuation level approximately 70% ,all glow plugs fully functional.
a regen should be able to happen in town as well as the highway.
a regen can even happen at standstill.
on here there is a modification you can carry out which employs an led light which will tell you when its start a regen .
ive driven. Diesel cars with DPF since 2006 and I've never had to rev it any more than normal driving and I've even turned a car off mid cycle.
