  • Oil pick-up seal

    Hello.

I have plans to replace the oil pick-up seal.
I have seen a very nice guid on here, and also seen some on youtube.
But i wonder if its much more work on a car with 4x4? Will the trans-case be a problem?

If my gearbox not have the "cut-outs", can i just support the gearbox and slide it to the side some centimeters?

I the sticky here it seems to be torx on the pan, but i think i remeber i have read somewere that it is a bolt head simmilar to torx, but slightly different?

    Thanks and best regards
    Anders

Yep, pull the gearbox around 2cm and support it. There's only 2 t50 torx up there.
It needs to be long torx to get up there.

The suspension set up is slightly different but not much. The rear drive will need to be disconnected to be able to move the box out

          Thanks.
          The parts i need is:
Seal aound the oil pick-up pipe
          Oil-pan seal

          Something more?
I think i buy these at the Opel/Vauxhall-shop.
Did you know the parts number?

Some special "liquid gasket", to threat the oil pan seal with?

            Oil pick up seal.
RTV sealant or Plastic gasket for sump/oil pan.

            Oil and oil filter.

            part number is 55589549

Please buy genuine as there are plenty fakes on online auction sites

As per my guide, I used Wynns Black Gasket maker, 12 months on from when I did mine (and wrote the guide) and all is good.

As .R.B.H. says, get the pick up seal from dealer, don't be buying these metal 'Ebay ones'.

Thanks. So no pan gasket, just RTV? Or did you mean both pan gasket and RTV?

Just the Wynns Gasket Maker, but make sure you clean every last bit of old sealant first. It has to be perfectly clean. I used a bit of white spirit once all removed to make it squeaky clean (wipe off and let dry before applying new sealant/Gasket maker.

Any silicon gasket will do as long as its a decent brand.

Thank you all for your help. during the christmas i replaced the seal. The last days we have minus 11 degree celsius and no problem with oil pressure. A month ago the oil warning was on at minus 6 degree celsius.
My car had the "holes" in the bellhousing. But the biggest problem was the transfercase. One screw was a nightmare to get out. The distance between the transfercase and the sump is around 5mm. Alot les than the head of the screw with washer. Long story short, i replaced it with a insex-screw, without washer. Think it was only way to get it back, without remove transfercase. But the head of the screw was bigger than the hole in the sump. I have not seen any leakage.
The dpf had to be moved as far to the front as possible. ( not to easy)
I also removed the left drive shaft. No oil comming out thru the transfer case.

                        Thanks
