  • New EGR but EGR fault codes returned

    Hi all

I had trouble a few months ago with egr and dpf related fault codes

I replaced dpf pressure sensor to no avail and then replaced egr and this worked for say 8 or 10 weeks

This morning i had engine light and was susprised when scanned the egr codes have returned i think it was open circuit but wiped the code before noting it

Distance since last regen is 70 miles and soot is 42%

What yous reckon is going on? Wiring issue maybe?

    Thanks

    Ryan

If it's showing a wiring code then it's the wiring.
That's why it's good not to always suspect component failure until you have run a diagnostic on the wiring.
Why did you replace the pressure sensor in the first place?

I had some dpf codes aswell as egr. Whenever I googled it, it seemed to be a common problem

I admit, I am very time poor at the minute and am at night school so I have become a bit of a parts changer rather than spending the time to diagnose correctly.

Will get a read of the codes and then try delve into the wiring or else pay a mechanic

      Regards

        Hi all

        Still getting the following codes

I can't see any obvious wiring issues would an auto electrician be best for this?

Dpf is at 75% not sure if it should regen befire that

        Best

Have you cleaned the metal pipe between the egr and inlet manifold?

It's a control circuit fault as said before ( electrical fault)
Looking at the wiring won't show you the fault.
If you are not ok with wiring then a good auto electrician will be able to track it down.

I gave it a quick clean when replaced egr valve but wasnt scrupulously thorough tbh

What about your MAP, MAF and intake temperature sensor are they clean and reading correctly?

below error it says open. shouldn't that mean open line / open circuit like wire coming off somewhere?

                    Broken wire somewhere.
                    As I stated before.its a wiring code.
                    Not a component code .

Sorry all I haven't been online we had terrible storm in NI

                      Still looking into this

I agree with lizzard I think this is an open in wiring

I've had a quick look at harness into egr and back to ecu in obvious places eg whete conduit is broken and high stress areas and see nothing

                      It could be internal break

I now either want to try some continuity tests or test voltages by back probing sensor

Anyone got a wiring diagram I know it should be 12 v 5 v ref then a signal and two grounds right ?

                      Best

                      Ryan

Depends on how many wires you have but you are right
                        You should have 12v Feed
                        5v reference circuit.
Signal wire ( which will either go up or down in power depending on position.)
                        And maybe 2 ground wires.
You can check for voltage buy using a test light .
Put one side on battery negative
Then probe the wire's and see which light the test light.

Thanks my lizzard I've been busy recently but will delve into it ASAP and post my findings to extent helpful for others

Have you tried looking into the EGR actuator and also EGR valve soleniod?

I remeber seeing a video on Youtube about it while i was searching for my EGR issues and it was very interesting and seems to be a part that some people either done know about or overlook. The EGR system is a bit more complex that my old Vectra C

Thanks no I haven't I thought the solenoid and actuator was all in the main valve which is electronically controlled but not certain
