  • MK1 aerial

Is it straight forward to change the original horrible aerial on the mk1s to a shark fin ?

Anyone just had a look at all related topics but carnt seem to find if it a straight forward plug in and play or if I need to change connectors
    I hate car electrics
love mechanic side of them but when it comes to wiring there is a reason auto electricians charge a arm and a leg

First off drop the rear of the headlining
I can't remember if it's clipped or velcro that keeps it in position.
Then you will spy the nut and spider washer also the communication wire from the aerial itself.
You will know yourself if you have
      GPS /NAV or just AM/FM
GPS/NAV is blue wire FM/AM is either Green or white.
If you are or you know a Ginocologist,or a 10 year old child then they will have it done in no time.
But observation is the key.see what cables come out and the connections on the plugs .
      most are Frakar .
Either that or look on Amazon they do some "straight swapp plug and play" type kits.

There is this one that bolts to the existing base and just sticks over it. I had one on my mk1 facelift. Local reception seemed ok but to be honest I always used DAB and the aerial for that is in the back window.

This is it on my previous Insignia
2017 Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport Sri Nav 1.5 (165ps) Turbo petrol in Lava Red - Keyless entry and start - 18” five spoke alloy wheels - Front fog lights - Tinted rear windows - Aluminium sports pedals - Ambient interior led lighting - Front and rear parking assist - Active emergency braking - Forward collision assist - Front pedestrian alert - Traffic sign recognition - Lane keep assist - Cruise control - Speed warning and limiter - Voice recognition - Bluetooth - Duel zone climate control - Front and rear electric windows - High beam assist - Auto lights - Auto wipers - Wifi hotspot - 8” colour touchscreen Navi 900 with Android Auto, Apple Car Play and DAB

I would go with the one Marko linked if it's as good as it looks then there's less hassle and you haven't go the possibility of water ingress if you take out the old aerial.
