  • How to disassemble front seat headrests ?

My Insignia A has active headrests on front seats. I decided to replace the cloth interior with leather. I know how to remove these headrests, it's already done, but now I need to disassemble these, so the clotch could be replaced with leather.

The front part of the headrest moves a bit when pulling, but it won't come off. I don't want to break anything. Any ideas ?

Here is an illustration of my problem:

Ive tried several and each time Ive broken the ratchet part.

Your quicker and easier changing the full headrest

Changing the headrest is not an option, because I want to add custom leather to the interior, including the headrests. I have already bought the leather (wasn't cheap) and some parts of the interior are already done.
There are no headrests with such leather in existence, so I need to dismantle my headrests for this.

Can you describe what's inside and where is the part you've broken. What exactly did you do when disassembling ? What made the part broke ?

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm also interested in disassembling the headrest and any info would be helpful

My headrests were taken apart by the guy who did my leather interior. Of course they became broken a bit in the process, so it's possible to pull them apart by hand now. But since they stay together, it's not a big deal. The mechanism that springs them in case of an accident is untouched.

But I also got the info how to take the headrests apart normally - you have to remove the back part of the seat cover, so you can access the seat interior, then there's a steel pulling cable (not sure how to call it) that goes into the headrest. Pulling it should release the headrest mechanism.
I haven't tried this myself though, because I don't need to, since the mechanism is loose a bit now, like I mentioned.
