  • AFL Light and Headlamp Levelling Malfunction - Xenon.

    2012 Insignia Ecoflex with Xenon lights.
    Both “Service AFL Lamp” and “Headlamp Levelling Malfunction” warnings came up at the same time, together with no headlights on the nearside (and no levelling dance on that side). Offside light still working normally. Slight condensation noticeable inside the headlight. All relevant fuses have checked out ok.
    Would a buggered Ballast on that side produce these faults? (Or could just a duff AFL bulb knock everything out, headlight and all?).

    Try swapping the ballast and then the bulb from the good side to the bad side and see if it starts working.
    If it does then you know what the problem is.
    If it doesn't then you have to start getting the fault codes.

          A follow-up on my lights issue.
          After drying (what appears to be condensation rather than rainwater) the inside of the lens with a hairdryer, there was no immediate change, so I ordered a new ballast. Then blimey, the next day everything suddenly worked properly again and the warning messages disappeared!
          Happy to report it has remained working for eight days now and in the meantime I sealed the unit with silicone and drilled some holes in the top inspection cap in an effort to combat condensation (its a spare cap and I drilled it in such a way that water won’t get in).
          From this I conclude that moisture has probably got at the ballast or its terminals, and that at least everything else is fine. Hopefully I can keep the light dry and if it fails again I’ll fit the new ballast.
