TBH I couldn't cruise at 65mph on a motorway as I die of boredom I set mine at 80mph.I doubt the extra 15mph would knock off 300 miles per tank though. My car is an Auto 170bhp remapped to 205bhp.It is more economical now than it was at 170bhp,only slightly but it is.
Image a 5 lane highway, almost empty because it's Sunday. And then be forced to do 63 mph because that's the speed limit.

That's the current situation in the Netherlands, between 7:00 and 19:00 the limit on all motorways is 100 km/h due to NOx pollution.

A few weeks back I drove to Disneyland Paris and refused to drive through it as that would mean almost 4 hours of 100km/h... I too would die from boredom. And I'm not really a fast driver.

    • 1.8L VVT SRI petrol

      Getting 40-45mpg cruising at 65mph.

But this is after flushing fuel system out with redex which made a huge difference. Economy was much worse and car sluggish before the treatment.

The car is now running better than it was at purchase! Pulls better through the rev range than I thought it was capable of. A real revelation. Must have been quite gunked up from years of bog standard supermarket unleaded by me and perhaps the previous owners as well. I suspect the fuel injectors had some build up because after running half a tank with Redex through, a flat spot at 4000rpm has gone completely.

I'm now a fuel additive convert and will be running on Shell V Power for the forseable future!

For anyone running a 1.8 petrol there's more info on my thread here where I've been doing some tests:

      • 4 years on still getting 43.6 - 45.6 mpg
        Over 40k on trip 2 and it's 43.6.
Nox 2 sensor not working and now starting to tell, was at 45.3 mpg other day,.did a regeneration dropped to 44.9 mpg which is about normal. But since then it's dropping constantly and now at 43.7 mpg.

The B has 8 liter smaller tank. So I think 850 miles with a manual would be possible with an A, but hard to achieve with an B. To be honest I was a bit disappointed I could get less miles with my B then with my A.
I have had over 750 with my 170,. but usually between 640 and 700

When mines had a bad NOx sensor it was drinking AdBlue as if it was diesel. Range dropped from 1300 km to 900 km in about 10 km of actual driving. Then stabilized a bit, but had it replaced soon after starting to complain.

              • My commute this morning. Mostly motorway with a bit of 50 mph zones. 2.0 cdti
the car has pretty much spent it's life on the motorway. It's serviced every 8k. Tyres are at 40 psi and the car is remapped to 195. I do use a pedal box also however I'm sure this is detrimental to mpg.

                  Ridiculous.
There is a stretch on the M1 between Junc 32 and 34( over Tinsley Viaduct) that always displays '60mph for air quality' totally pointless.I set the cruise at 65mpg as it's a smart motorway with average speed cameras but most just fly on through as usual.I fail to see how reducing the speed by 10mph on a 3 or 4 mile section on the M1 will make a difference.
It's not even consistent as southbound the limit starts at J34 as you gor over the Viaduct and Northbound it stops as you go over the viaduct so traffic in both directions are going different speeds
