  • Advice needed please - I suspect it's the cambelt :(

I suspect my cambelt is close to going - 100k petrol engine/manual/2.0 T - noise kicks in at 3k rpm in every gear - any advice on:

    Am I right?

How long have I got if I keep it under 3k rpm?

I haven't checked the oil for debris this week (it was clean last week) is there anything I should look out for?

Thanks - just lacking a bit of knowledge about this engine I can't describe the noise accurately so have posted the video. Coming from front and centre though.

I'll try to put your mind at rest
I'm not saying that a chain driven engine is a brucey bonus.
because with them the chain guides disintegrate ( stupid plastic)
but if the chain was an issue then there woukd be a distinct rattle from start up .
and it would be from the left hand side ( looking at the car from the front )

    13-56 keep on trucking!

Thanks, it helps but still leaves me needing to find out what the noise is - visit to the garage for it I think.

To me now hearing it better. It sounds like the rev limiter is kicking in .
dose it run ok apart from this noise ?

It does upto 3k and apart from the noise at higher rpm. All temps are perfect and it idles perfectly. The only other odd noise occurs from a cold start but you can only hear that when you listen for it.

Are you getting any messages come up on the dash such as 'service vehicle soon'?
    is your eml on?

      Ta, only service suspension?

Sorry just seen your reply, comments don't show on Tapatalk. I'm assuming you have flexiride suspension then, you got a sport and tour button above radio? Have you got a fault code reader such as Opcom?
