  • Meguiar's ultimate paste wax [emoji1360][emoji1628]

So while having time off work it was time for the car OCD to kick in!! Using a Autoglym clay bar which surprisingly with the car looking like new before it still took a considerable amount of dirt off the paintwork. Looking in Halfords I was going for my normal wax of choice which is the High definition wax by autoglym, noticing the Meguiar's ultimate paste wax after gave me chance to have a change and see what it was like instead.
Easy application and easy buff to this wax is brilliant! A little also goes along way and found myself using less wax than what I would have with the autoglym. The end result I'm really pleased with! It's very a hydrophobic wax and repels water brilliant! The shine is amazing and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone!

A wax is a final coat and normally doesn't remove any imperfections from the paintwork. You have a decent finish on that paintwork so you clearly have a good wash regime.

Just think what you could achieve if you did -

                Wash - remove dirt
                Claybar - remove bonded dirt
Polish - remove swirls, scratches etc
                Glaze - add shine
Sealant - seal that shine in
Wax - wax provides a protective hard coat

Some people don't use a sealant and a glaze, but I do. Also some people don't add a sealant if they're waxing. There's loads of science and opinions on many sites. My personal favourite site is detailingworld.co.uk

At the end of the day everybody who likes detailing their car would love to spend that amount of time on it. In reality after a week at work it's fitting it in on a weekend along with every other thing that has to wait for the weekend.

I've followed a regime similar to yours in the past and found you're pretty much wasting your time on a daily use car. Also polishing a car should be kept to an absolute minimum. Every time a swirl disappears from polishing, so does a very fine layer of top coat or on older cars, paint.

The wash is where the damage is done and the action that makes me scream like Homer Simpson is when I see people use a brush! I've recently moved onto a microfibre wash mitt after using sheepskin ones for years. Both are gentle on the paintwork. Also I do light passes over the car, never any pressure. The reason I say this is because you can throw a list as long as your arm out there full of products you can stick on a car but the correct prep and cleaning can cut that list in half.

These detailing sites etc... have one thing in mind when they push this and push that...They want your money or they're sponsored by the makers of these product who want your money.

I agree with you marko301 regarding the polishing. Too much of it and you risk breaking through the laquer. The most damage is done in the wash process so a good regime is crucial as per my comment to the OP.

If I want to achieve my maximum results I follow the steps above, and I've found products I'm happy with.

I've attended various detailing days and the only time I've felt like i was being pushed product was at Meguiars. Most of the other detailers give you a run down of products and 'their' reason for using them. What I have found is you do not always get what you pay for! You don't need to buy the expensive stuff to get the results you're looking for.

The most important thing is to keep the wax topped up. I'm not into the science side of detailing. We all know the paint finish is made up of dips, chips and valleys if put under the microscope. A decent well matched glaze filler topped off with a good wax gives the same results to the naked eye as sticking 4 or 5 product on. What I mean about these so called detailing experts is they advise you to use all those products for the best finish when they know the same results can be achieved using just a couple.

I love to sit and laugh at these Ferrari owners who pay a top detailer to come round and detail their car. Using little cameras to judge the depth and looking for imperfections the naked eye can't see. Then Mr Little Willy happily pays a couple of grand to the detailer for his excellent work.
