I know the upper mounts along with the shocks are vehicle specific, i.e. different on tourer/saloon/hatch. I paid €437.88 for each. €875.76 total. That in todays money is £399 each. If you can get a new shock for £322 Id go for it. On mine the offside was perfect with no corrosion, so before you buy check out the condition of both so you know why one is failing in case the other is soon to follow. The flexride system will still work (to an extent) with a failed shock as the system does not recognise mechanical failure of the shock. The bumb stop and shield had also failed on mine, but these are included with a new shock too.

On a brighter note I have both rear shocks and both front shocks in the garage, I changed the fronts too but they are perfect. I plan on selling mine in the next couple of months, I can test it in april for 2 years so will look to trade or sell then. The shocks in my garage will be of no use to me then so.....
Edit:Read that again...I might have confused the shocks with the car?

This is the longest I've kept any car and to be honest I love it, but its getting long in the tooth for the milage I do. The new GS just doesnt do it for me. I'd two work vans between the omega and first siggi.

Yes but I'm in the west of Ireland where every second car back then was a diesel jetta. Every single farmer had one. It was the car to have back then. And when the 'big bumper' model came out!!! Trouble was I was working in the south travelling to see my now wife in Dublin every weekend. Long before motorwars were introduced to us. Lots of overtaking required, hence the swift move to the petrol vectra. Half the M50 around dublin did exist then though. Jetta was something like 54PS and 100Nm and it did 56mpg religously. Biturbo is 192PS and 400Nm and not 56mpg. Jetta was great though I had spots in the grille and spots under the bumper. Simpler times.
