  • EGR valve swap

    I have been a bit naughty and swapped my EGR valve for one on a 'donor' car. Trying to track down the source of a vibration and mpg that's gotten worse, though not drastically so. The usual Google searches pointed in the direction of the EGR valve, never thought it would cause the symptoms I have. Anyway, there may be a positive result. Had a quick drive, but need a few more miles to confirm it. The rough idle or slightly rougher idle, and vibration especially at low revs in low gears seems to have gone. Fingers crossed. The wife's, I mean 'donor' car has gotten worse through the revs. No ECU light or fault codes. My EGR had a light dusting of soot inside the valve and a more heavy coating outside. The 'donor' valve had a thick coat all round, which, given mine is a '12 on 160k miles and the 'donor' a '14 on 85k miles, makes me think the valve is not opening on mine.

    Juddering at low revs and also rough idle can me the MAP sensor. Give that a clean

        There is no 'Her' bits. Its 'My' or 'Our' bits
        Just hope a code doesn't appear in the AM on the '14.

          Thanks, I've done that (there is a thick crust of crap on the inside of the inlet manifold, and I mean thick) and the DMF/clutch and the vibration damper. But I think, and I'm surprised, its down to the EGR valve. It would not have been on my radar for a vibration.
