Fairy liquid isn't entirely a no no. I can be better than the crap they use at drive in car washes. It will take most of your protection off.

If you go to smaller auto retailers you'll pick up branded stuff for buttons if you're not fussy!

Are you just after shampoo? Carplan or turtlewax cheap stuff is ok. Keeps your car clean thats all you really need if you are on a budget

Asda is your friend for cheap stuff, their microfibre cloths are the best I've found too.
