There's an isolator that fits over the steering column where it passes through the firewall to join on to the steering rack.

I believe that gearbox removal requires that the suspension cross-member also be removed, and probably the steering rack. That being the case, it is possible that the isolator has been missed out, or at least not properly relocated during reassembly.
