Yes indeed. The Insignia Grand Sport is the very last VX/Opel-designed car model to be built using a GM platform. It is likely to only have a life-cycle of under 5 years, as PSA will be moving all their car production to their own platforms by 2002, as they want to avoid having to continue to pay fees to GM for further use of GM platforms.

The new Crossland X and Grandland X models are built on a PSA platform, using PSA engines, and are effectively re-badged Peugeots.

As for the insignia Grand Sport cuts have already started on the specifications. Keyless Entry and Start will be reduced to Keyless Start only as standard, with Keyless Entry an extra-cost option.

Rear wash/wipe will also become optional, and will need to be ordered as a no-cost option.

French crap! I hate PSA had several different models over the years ,stick to pedalling onions, as Chubby Brown says (tip the channel tunnel up on its edge and sh--t and p--s down it !)

Lets hope once we leave the EU as brits we start to become more self contained, look after what we've got and build on that ! we need to become Great Britain once again and we will

I've wont buy Peugeots as they closed all the production lines, making many many workers jobless in the Uk but still want to sell to us over here.

My last car was a Citoren DS3, in its defence I had no problem with it (did 40,000 over 2 years in it). It only failed it's MOT due to worn brake pads (not the cars fault) .

French cars aren't as bad as people make out.

TBH it's probably better that Vauxpel aren't in GM, GM is a dying behemoth and has been circling the drain for the past 20 years.

Some French cars are not at all bad, the DS3/4/5 models are nice. It has been suggested that when production stops on the Insignia Grand Sport in 2021/2, it may well be replaced by something akin to the new Peugeot 508, which, although expensive, is a fine-looking car.

Not necessarily. It's just that PSA want to get rid of paying fees for continuing to use GM platforms. So from around 2021/22 all New Opels/Vauxhalls will be built on PSA platforms. It may well be that new Opel/Vauxhall models will look different from the PSA models they will be based on (as is the case with the new Peugeot-based Vauxhall Crossland X and Grandland X models), but the platforms and underpinnings will be PSA.

The Grand Sport is a brave and radical departure from what it replaced, but it remains to be seen how it is viewed once PSA take full control, although PSA were allegedly well pleased with the Grand Sport.

A French take on the insignia would be interesting. Wonder if it would have hydrogas suspension like those massive Citorens have.

Maybe only as an option, as is now the case on big Citroëns. A replacement based on the DS4/DS5 or the new Peugeot 508 would be interesting.

It's worth noting that Opel at Rüsselsheim have been given the role of being in charge of all new R&D for new PSA engines and vehicles including Citroen Peugeot and DS as well as Opel, so there may be light at the end of the tunnel. In my view the new Grandland X which is a rebadged Peugeot 3008, but with an Opel 'face', does look so much better than the tired Mokka or the geriatric Zafira . And the new DS5 and Peugeot 508 are a step up from what preceded them. The assertion that VX/opel models can have a separate identity visually from their PSA counterparts may not be such a bad thing in the longer term.
