  • AFL solution?

    Hi All,
I know there is some threads about issues with AFL but none of them contains solution other to replacement.
So my issue was ''service AFL lamp'' on occasion only, then it was coming up every time the lights were in auto mode but was no issue when lights were off or switched on manually. But for last few weeks error comes up every time I start the car no matter lights are off or on and because this leads to no high/full beam car failed MOT.
Right now I am trying to find someone who would be able to advice me what to with it, looking for some xenon specialist or something?
I have already replaced this sensor that is attached to suspension as well as cornering light bulbs but no effect.
If anyone has managed to fix it in their car it would be fantastic to find out what the solution is.

    Thanks in advance

A lot of these issues have actually been resolved with the cornering bulbs being replaced. But you say you've done that. Do the lights do their dance when unlocking the vehicle at night or when the lights are turned on to auto?

Yes, they always do the dance, this is what confuses me, they move as they should and error comes up even before they stop moving. In auto mode cornering lamps working normally. Today I've also swapped d1s bulbs from left to right but this didn't change a thing. Thinking about replacing xenon bulbs but afraid it will be waste of cash as they not cheap. Really don't know what to with them:/

The xenon bulbs are the D1's aren't they? Cornering are H11's

If changing the bulbs does no good you need to get the codes read to find out what the problem is

There's 3 level sensors, one at each front suspension arm and one on the nearside rear suspension arm. If you have replaced one already then possibly one of the other two is faulty. Replace one of the old sensors with the one you took off and replaced as it probably wasn't faulty in the first place as the problem persists. See if this solves the problem. It'll cost nothing but a bit of time to swap bits around.
Or go to dealers and get diagnostics done and it'll tell you straight away whats up.

I've replaced one on the rear as this was damaged, other 2 seem ok but will go on Monday to read the codes but no to Vauxhall as they always have same solution regardless of the issue- headlight replacement. I really don't think it need to be replaced as on start they do the dance as they should. Maybe module need to be changed? There is quite a lot of them on eBay and they not too expensive. Anyone have had this done?

I gues you can't put the lights to high beam? I had kind of the same problem with my car after a crash. The AFL would do it's dance but service AFL and no possible way to get them in high beam. The garage change the control module that sits under or behind the ligh, cant remember the location. No problem after that.

Yes, I can't use the high beam which is the main reason for my car to fail MOT. I found this headlight http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/252994807028 and I wonder if it fits my 2009 insignia? Is anyone able to provide me with any info how to check? Seller isn't sure as it's been taken off from newer one(still pre facelift).
                    Thanks in advance

As long as it is off a pre-face lift, then it will fit.

B0985 is the code I'm getting. New headlight ordered and hopefully on Monday will be replaced. Not sure if mine is fixable but running out of time so will replace, will keep you posted

The ballast is located directly under the headlight and may be the source of your problem as it regulates the current to the bulb and thus the lack of high beam. The control module may also be at fault though. Hope you get it sorted.
