Estate tailgate release switch

I have a 60 plate estate and the boot release switch has stopped working, (not a key fob release type) I understand it’s a common fault,
I thought I’d have a go at replacing it myself but I can’t figure out how to remove the chrome coloured tailgate piece. I’ve seen the YouTube video of the German guy but the estate version is different. I’ve removed all bolts and pushed through the plastic clips but still won’t release. Any ideas?
Also, are the replacement switches the same for all models?
