  • Clonking from drivers side front when reversing at an angle??

Yeah had this when I finished work today....

I backed out of my parking space, reversed it in left to allow me to turn right to pull out of the car park, and as it was going in I had this 'clonk clonk clock clonk' coming from the front drivers side wheel area...the noise was in time with the motion of the wheel.

I've checked visually and the drive home was fine.....my first thoughts were slight rust build up on the break disk with them being slotted but it wouldn't make that sort of noise would it?

also driveshaft related?, but it would be like that all the time wouldn't it?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice

Outer CV joint. Classic symptoms, clunking/clicking on full lock at low speed. Not too hard to fix.

Cheers Buttons......not too hard to fix? what about price wise?

I did the exact same manoeuvre today, to try and make it do it but it didn't!

(Obviously the thread title should have been 'Clonking' not 'Clocking'...if a mod/admin fancies editing it)

90 quid for my passenger side shaft, and just under an hour of my time..driver's side shaft is longer though,so will be a bit more expensive. Don't know if the CV joint can be split from the shafts and replaced separately,I went for easy option and changed the lot

Both outer and inner CV joints are held onto drive shaft by a circlip. The outer CV joint can be bought separately but inner not available (here IRL anyway). Dealer only part apparently.
