Whats wrong with my instruments??

My lights were doing the same, both Speedo and rev counter. Would be ok at start up and gradually go as the car warmed up. Battery started showing signs of needing replacement (original on a 61 plate) so have changed it for a good decent one and has been no occurrence since and that's been since Xmas.
