  • Buying advice for Insignia 2014 estate biturbo elite nav Auto

    Hi All

I would appreciate some advice on buying an Insignia elite nav estate bitubo auto 2wd. Looking at this car at vx Dealers with 37k on a 14 plate.
Been searching this forum for info on issues and problems but would appreciate any owners advising there own experiences and thoughts.

Last insignia I had was a 59 plate 2.0Turbo petrol which was fun but very thirsty and blew the turbo at 55k
Had a differnt car since then but still like the kit and comfort so looking to buy again.
I turbo is of interest as want as much low end pull as poss to suit my driving style as last car was merc 320 cdi and I could get 48mpg from that each day on 160mile commute.

All advice greatfully recieved as looking to keep this car atleast 6 years and run about 20k miles a year

    Many thanks

I have a 2012 sri nav ST bi turbo with manual box. It has extras all but bringing it to elite, bar the electric seats and folding mirrors. There are 2 service recalls on the prefacelift at least regarding the ECU programming for the DPF regeneration and the mounting for the water cooled intercooler which can fail and crack the housing. These were issued in 2016/2017 I think so may effect the facelift. Ive had to replace the oil pick up seal and the DMF/clutch kit recently but at 150,000 miles so you have a bit of breathing space. Wheel bearings seem to be a bit weak. I had wiring break on rear suspension for the flex ride but was simple fix. Intermediate shaft bearings are known to go, but I think thats on all insignias. Some LEDS on dash rev counter have gone but other than that all electrics sound. Rad has sprung a leak but that may be my fault due to a lost screw.
Biturbo is the way all insignias should drive. The push for economy and low Co2 has compromised the EcoFlex models. You do not have any appreciable performance benefit over the 170ps but the Bi is far more 'driveable' which makes the difference for me. Boot switch did go but was cheap fix with genuine part. Flex ride is superb, my wife has an '14 elite 163 and every time I drive it I reckon the shocks are gone. the ride is superb and far superior to the non Flex ride models. Nearside inner CV joint on mine needs changing which is odd for an insignia as boot etc is all intact. Not a common problem as far as I know. I recommend, just check TSB/Recalls are done.

I had the 140 for a while and the long gearing made it feel really sluggish. Just had the 170 and if you want low down shove it has it in spades. Not driven a BiTurbo to compare mind you.

Pretty sure it should be ok after feading the replies. Any specific engine issues to look for or keep an eye out for?

Is this motor also going to suffer the oil pick up seal issue?

Any other info on the reliability etc of the biturbo and auto box appreciated

              Many thanks

No experience of the autobox, mine is manual. As for engine issues,it's basically the same engine used accross the 2.0 cdti range,so could potentially, have the same issues

It's the facelift. They came out late 2013.

Is the 64 plate with the new facia with touch buttons for temp heated wheel etc classed as the face lift or is that the current new car?

It's classed as the facelift it'll be the navi900. The current car is the insignia b. That also has the navi900 but it has updated hardware so apple car play and andriod auto are included. The hardware didn't include them until late 2016-2017 on the facelift (insignia a).

Hi all, well we picked up the car yesterday from a superb dealer in Newcastle who was only 300miles from home! Never seem to buy a car locally.
The car looked stunning and oh what a fantastic thing it is! Prev cars were Merc E class 320 estate and even a chrysler 300estate.
This insignia is just an awsome piece of kit.
Fast, quiet, so ecconomical, uber comfortable, grippy, and more kit that you can find in decent toy shop.

To say I am pleased is an understatement.
On the 300mile drive home, It proved soo ecconomical at over 50mpg which I think is really good on an auto running on cruise at 65-70 with just a little of the “getting the feel “for it game. Sports mode is a hoot and transforms the car into something, well, rather sporty.
Even in normal driving mode the throttle is hardly needed and power is right there instantly with ease and no fuss, needing not much more throttle to safely overtake.

In short wow! The biturbo has made my day and blown away all the worries I had going to the 4pot from my recent big 6pots.

It drives just like a bigger diesel with tones of torque at 1500rpm and a solid push from there to the redline in a constant wave of insistant urge. Its also so quiet on the engine front, road noise is noticable with the 19inch wheels and low profile typres but as a package I thinks it so good, actually drove home grinning like a child, I love it, and am so so happy.
Having had a 59plate insignia in the past which was the 2.0Turbo petrol which was huge and enjoyable fun, but madly thirsty. I can say the Biturbo performs very close to that but is better as a package as its more drivable with huge power range not just all or nothing in one go.

Thanks to you all for your input and advice

One issue I have noticed is at 50mph on cruise. The car is in 6th and its like the auto box takes too lonkg to find the right gear 5th or 6th at that speed as it sounds for all the world like a manual car that is in too high a gear grimbling and steuggling Is this normal! Either changing down to 5th or waiting 5-10 seconds and it figures that out for itself abd drops to 5th, just seems to be the one particular speed that catches the gearbox out a little. its the only thing that does though, as the box is smooth amd slikly and changes just right everywhere else almost imperceptably. Dont think its a fault but just characteristic of the set up, however any thoughts or experience would be welcome

How do you get images on here ? as will post a coupe of pictures
