  • Hid kit fitted but no lights

    Hi,
Newbie to this site, great articles already found, thanks.

    I have a 63 plate face lift.
Like many, the output of the standard bulbs are pathetic.
So based on others Experiences that I read In this forum, I bought this hid kit

HIDS-Direct is an auto bulb specialist offering HID kits, Xenon HID bulbs, MTEC bulbs, LED lights and air suspension. They sell products for cars, motorbikes and trucks.

Connect it all up but no light output.

Put the original bulbs back in, works ok.

Am I missing something here ?

    Grateful for any help.

Hi and thanks for the reply
The connector on the hid kit that accepts the stock connector only plugs in one way as there is a tab which allows the clip on the stock plug to lock in when connected, so can only connect one way as far as I can see

I had the same kit and problems as well, as you say can only fit one way, mine initially didn't work, then came on and started flashing sporadically then stopped working again. It's in the post back at mo.

Worth messaging the seller to see what they say. Might be a dodgy unit.
Even the only review say 'Had a faulty part. No hassle in changing it out. Replacement arrived promptly'

Well, I,be just been outside, checked the voltage polarity in the stock socket, plugged the hids back in so it clips in and lights are on now, so not sure what happened previously.
My only other problem now, is trying to fit the ballast inside the headlamp unit, does it really fit ?
Do I need to temporarily undo something, move something, cut something to fit it in ?
And I,m talking about the easy side, not the side with the windscreen refil tube !

Screen wash tube pulls up and out with a gentle wiggling, also it does fit inside the light mate it takes a lot of patience and juggling it in and out but it all does eventually go in mate. Take your time don’t try and force it, it all goes in nicely when placed in the correct places etc..

Before I sent mine back I checked no way would mine go in, think if you get the dear pack it fits but not the cheaper one, either that or I was being a total numpty.

Mine has the ballast, and a black box along the line, looking at it I thought no way is that going in there, but it did, it took some time but I pursued and got there in the end

Worth checking if the pins inside the plugs are aligned properly; the set I bought were very much not centred and so didn't connect properly when the plugs went together. Pair of needle-nose pliers sorted it.

had the same problem took me ages to find out that the pins on both ballast were pushing behind the contact

has Rogue Joker 4885 says just needed a firm push forward and both worked ok

the ballasts both fit inside the light unit but the only go in one way with a bit of wiggling

I had the same kit and everything does fit in the housing but it is a bit tight
