GSi pricing in IRL

This is of little interest to most folks on here and a rhetorical question, but why is the GSi BiTurbo Diesel so much dearer than the GSi 2.0 turbo petrol in Ireland.
In UK diesel biturbo is £34,475; petrol turbo £34,875
In IRL diesel biturbo is €53,600; petrol turbo €49,500
Given the tax system here (purchase tax as well as car tax) is currently based on Co2 emissions and is heavily biased towards diesel cars, why is the diesel dearer? and by so much? Co2 is less on biturbo. Not by much mind.
