  • Diesel injector timing

Shortly going to change the timing belt, A20DTH, I appreciate the injection system is common rail, pressurised by the injector pump driven by the timing belt, but does the pump drive sprocket have to be precisely set relative to the crank sprocket to get the injector timing correct. Not sure where the injector pulses are generated.

The pump does not need to be timed though its marked. I aligned marks on mine. I assume the camshaft position sensor times the injectors? Mine, cam position sensor, was covered in metal fillings, no idea where they came from.

Thanks for the info. Just getting back into doing my own repairs after 40 years of company cars. I will make sure I maintain the alignment just to be on the safe side. Invested £20 on timing tool kit, rather pay that than £2k + for repairs.
