I do about 50 miles a day combined but my dpf has said it’s cleaning keep driving any ideas why

  • #2
Tells you to keep driving so that the dpf can complete the regen. Otherwise you could get diesel dumped into the sump.

Will do a regen every so often to clean the filter. Otherwise it will clog up cost a load of money to replace.

So it’s just a normal thing then

Yes it’s normal, but if it keeps failing to regen, then you get diesel in the sump which in turn perishes the oil seal on the pick up pipe and starves the engine of oil. Causing the very well talked about problem on here, bottom end seizures. Then it’s either a new engine or a complete rebuild.

Sounds like it’s possibly had a few interrupted regens and is now full.
I’d advise fitting the warning led so you don’t interrupt any regens.

Yeah seems to be sorted now I have the digital dash and it comes up with attention and can’t take it off so I have no choice to drive till it’s off

You need to do the miles to allow the DPF time to complete a regen. Typically 10 minutes for engine to warm up and then 15 more minutes for regen to complete.

Even on long motorway runs DPFs often don't get hot enough to do much passive regeneration. In many cases, the faster you go (within UK speed limits) the quicker the DPF will fill with soot.

Every few hundred miles the car will do a regen and most people don't even notice. Sometimes regens get interrupted so the car will try again but if it's interrupted again it might well put up the 'continue driving' message.

In the past I've had regens begin immediately after spending an hour at 70+mph, with the car then trying to regen in heavy town traffic as I finish my journey. That's really annoying.

1300 miles since having car, I'm low mileage each week, don't do much over speed limits and not seen, felt, noticed a single regen yet. Gonna have to fit led so I know.
