  • Engine overheat stop engine.

Got this message on the dash .
Car won’t start and if it does it’s spluttering and cutting out .
    Black smoke from exhaust .
AA guy said probably the DPF .
Had the car from New , had it 5 years and first time it’s had a problem.
    It’s a 2013 SE sport tourer 2.0 Diesel.
    54,000 miles .
Why has it said overheat if it’s the DPF ?
    Advice ?
Booked into a local garage for Tuesday.

There is a known problem with faulty exhaust gas temperature sensors. You'll most likely have to get these changed. If you've been running with the problem a while then your dpf could be blocked because due to the faulty sensor it's not been able to so a regen

      Cheers buddy
Do do notice it does regular regens , but the last few have had a fair bit of black smoke for a good 2-3 minutes .
Will let the garage no about this fault .

So would I need a DPF clean or just a forced regeneration?

Update had a call from Garage
They said it needed the Exaust gas temperature sensor changing and now it’s running fine .
So I can pick the car up tomorrow.
They said it doesn’t need a forced regeneration or DPF clean .

Think this is the problem I have had today. Waiting for the garage to pick the car up, what is a forced regeneration and the dpf ?

So they changed the faulty sensor.
Car running fine again for the past 3 days .
Thought it was a little pricey though .
£190 , that was £85 for gas temperature sensor, £25 for hooking upto the diagnostics £40 labour and VAT . The part is only £40-£55 anywhere off the self !!!!
