  • Insignia B - list of lights & bulbs / LED upgrades

    Hi all,

After reading numerous threads about lighting options related to Insignia B (and older models), I couldn't find a comprehensive list of different bulb types in the new Insignia. This information could be useful for people (myself included) who are planning of upgrading from halogen bulbs to HIDs or LEDs for example. So I started building a list of Insignia B's lights and bulb types for an easy upgrade path for those who might be looking for the same information. I did similar research and LED modifications on my current Kia Optima, and was very pleased of the "modern" looks and outcome.

The list below needs some insight from actual owners, in addition of things I have researched so far. My focus is on the halogen bulbs, which are first on the to-do list. My own Sports Tourer is waiting for a delivery date, and I'm building a list of modifications needed to go full LED setup right after delivery, as some bulbs are still halogen from the factory. I'm not sure if there are differences between Opel/Vauxhall, and Grand Sport & Sports Tourer, so different variations should be accounted for a complete listing. Buick Regal and Holden Commodore are left out of this scope.

Resistor and other CAN Bus requirements could also prove to be useful information while looking for products. From what I've read rear turn indicator bulbs might be trickiest to find suitable LED replacements without extra wiring.

All comments, additions and corrections are most welcome!

Edit: Links for confirmed working bulbs added.
Edit: Links and information regarding resistors added for specific bulbs.

That's a really useful list, thanks for taking the time to do it.

How about adding links to LED bulbs that are known to work? It would save people a lot if time searching for a working bulb.

If members can supply links for tried and tested bulbs that work without bulb errors ,I could make it a sticky thread in the "Lighting" section

First hand experience from different bulbs and links would be superb.

Regarding front fog lights, some website listed them as H8, but for example "autobulbsdirect.co.uk" replied via email that they have them listed as H10. So not really sure which one is correct, someone may have already upgraded those and know the correct one for sure. Of course you could always ask the dealer, but where's the fun in that

Edit: Opel also has a spare bulb kit for Insignia B, which includes both H8 and H10, so go figure: https://www.opel-accessories.com/ope...7638?view=list

These work in the rear indicators, without errors. Although the pins are not quite right, they do fit in the socket and work fine: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have these for the reversing lights: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I haven't changed my foglight bulbs but I know these work: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Nighte...e/152848223527

I have this LED kit https://www.autostyling.com/lighting...headlight-kit/ in my dipped beam. Tried a few but they all caused glare due to the position of the chips but this kit has the chips just in the right place. They do cause a bulb out error message though so you need these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Led-Li..._GT6Q7fnj03Hxg canbus boxes but all easily fit inside the headlight housing.

I have these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nighteye-....c101006.m3226 in my main beam. They light unlit country roads really well and because the main beam lights aren't canbus, they don't give an error message. I previously tried them in dipped but they cause to much glare. Great in main beam though and pretty cheap.

I have the same rear indicator LEDs as cmor and they work great. No need for resistors or anything.
@Defie has changed most of his bulbs to LEDs including the 3 I've mentioned in mine. He should be able to help.

                    Hi All.

List below of my changes. All fitted now for months and working like a charm

Dipped main beam - alternative link to cheaper identical bulb - decoders needed as per Marko’s link

Main full beam - similar brand to Marko’s link just brighter - no decoder needed on main beam

                    Reverse light

Rear Indicator bulbs - no resistors needed

                    Fog lamps,
The stock bulb is H8 but H11 also fit. Be careful though if you get a cheap bulb with a poor seal the housing can leak and your fog lamp can become a “fogged lamp”. I have reverted to halogen. The ones below will work
NIGHTEYE H7 LED Headlight Kit 70W 30000LM 6500K Super Bright Canbus No Error Hi-Lo Beam IP68. No glare to oncoming vehicles and drivers, making it safer to drive at night. -Extended Lifespan: Fanless design, no fan noise and fan failure.

I also have changed the rear fog lamp but I can’t find the link. I will repost this later

Okay, I got stopped by the Police last night! They were sat two cars behind me and said the rear indicators were blinding other drivers

They were okay about it, just told me to remove them.

So they may not be the best option.

That might be an option Dave, but I think it's more to do with the light that comes out from the reflector, they are really bright LED's.
I tried one with a normal bulb in and the LED is actually brighter than the tail lights.

In some modern cars especially in the dark conditions, I feel the stock rear LED indicators and brake lights are very bright , almost blinding when sitting behind them. But this surprises me. Aren't they supposed to be seen clearly? Of course blinding is a bit different, but still, are they really that bright?

When I fitted mine in the summer I was driving back from Whitby in the dark with my son following in his car. He rang me then to say they were blinding him and his wife but I put it down to their eyes being drawn to them because they knew I'd just changed them and me asking them to check them out.
