Hi, I am considering buying my friend's 65-plate 1.6 CDTI SRI hatchback off her. She's had it since new, it has a FSH, just ticked over 40,000 miles. A few parking bumps but that's it. I drive it often and I like it.
I currently drive a Ford Mondeo Mk4 which is getting long in the tooth. The reason I'm posting here is because I'm hoping to find some answers about the ease of upgrading the Insignia with parts from higher-spec models. For instance, my Mondeo started life as an absolute base model and is now all but indistinguishable from a Titanium or a Titanium-X; I've added numerous items easily and cheaply e.g. auto-dimming mirrors, heated and vented half leather interior, automatic wipers, upgraded trip computer, and so on. All of it was fairly cheap and very straightforward.
I'm not so interested in doing anything to the performance as my cars tend to be used for long-distance motorway driving throughout Europe so comfort, reliability and economy are very important.
So I would like to know... if I go ahead with this purchase, what can I do to spec it up a bit? I'd be interested in fitting heated folding mirrors, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a rear seatback with an arm rest would be nice. As I said, appearance and performance aren't really that important.
What have you done to yours?
