Looking at replacing CD500 with an android Unit

Hi - My insignia has a CD500 in it and I'd like to replace it with an Android unit. Has anyone tried this yet? I've seen quite a few but they say they will only work if the car has a CD300/CD400 in it and whilst the dash looks the same i can't understand what the difference would be. Some of the android ones I've seen even come with the replacement plastic dash surround so it would make it look great. Any advice or if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks
