  • Price for a Cambelt/waterpump change at a Main Dealer ?

My 63 plate Diesel Insignia has now hit 86K miles so it's time(ish) for a belt & pump change. My local main dealer is quoting £580 for belts/pulleys & water pump !

Is this a realistic price or are they after a late Christmas bonus ?

Having you over mate, go to a local indy garage, and your bill will be nearly halved

      That's what I thought !

The most expensive GM kit I could find was £150 inc vat for belts/pulleys & pump and the labour seems to be 2 & 3/4 hours so £580 is taking the ****

Local VW specialist charges £260 for a belt and water pump change for a Golf, so pretty sure you can get your insignia done for that. I would not touch a main dealer these days, way too expensive.

£580 is high even for main dealer. Feb/March last year I put my insignia in for cambelt kit, water pump & aircon re-gas (cambelt kit was fixed price at £289, aircon was £60 leaving £111 for the water pump. Sounds like they are charging labour for each separately.

£580? That's more like clutch changing money than cambelt money. Cambelt shouldn't be more than £300 quid for the Insignia. They're having a laugh.

Local local box dealer wanted £440 for cambelt and water pump. I did the job myself and changed everything, including the aux belt tensioner and pulley for less than £200

I don’t trust dealers, well my local one anyway. The chap on the service desk is rather insulting with his lack of knowledge and the guys in the workshop that changed my engine and proceeded give the engine its first test drive at 70mph down the 30mph limit road out side the dealership. Got it all on my tracker!
