  • M32 Gearbox Repair

    Hi All,

I'm new here but have been lurking as a guest for all your helpful advice!

I have a 2010 plate 1.8 petrol Exclusiv Insignia on a mere 54,000 miles which has unfortunately developed the dreaded gearbox whine in 5th and 6th gear and very very slightly in others. What is interesting is the clutch and flywheel are absolutely fine and I'm not particularity heavy footed... Also the gearbox is still silky smooth when changing gear.

Anyway, it is time for bearings replacement and the modified end case. I have obtained some quotes which some are extortionate but a friend who had the same work done has recommended a fairly local gearbox specialist that has quoted me £1050 for the work including VAT. I have seen a place in Luton will complete for £800, so my question is; is around the thousand pound mark a reasonable price for this work?

    Thank you!!!

Try contacting M32Guy on the Vauxhall Owners Club forum. He does all sorts of reconditioning on tese gearboxes and is highly recommended on the forum.

When you changed oil in gearbox? On Polish Forum Insignia recommendation Fuhs Titan Sintofluid SAE 75W-80 every 1850 miles. You need about 2.5 litre oil(recommend). Try change oil, but in my opinion your gearbox is not in good condition. I’ve got similar car and changed oil in my m32 gearbox. It’s easy

I had my 1.8 Elite's gearbox repaired last Wednesday at a local place to me in Kent, WGMotorworks. The box wasn't removed & all bearings were replaced. I didn't have the 2nd generation end casing as its a box out job & mines done 96,000 miles. The work took 2.5 hours & is now as quiet as it should be. It cost me £599 all in.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm pretty sure this issue is more than just a need for replacement gearbox oil, I'm afraid. I will give WGM a call later today, thanks for the recommendation.
