  • Argh bloody car Any help

    Fitted another alternator to my car and 1 day later getting battery light service battery charging system. Why is she eating alternators

    Was it a new or a used pal? If it’s used chances are you’ve got a dicky one, or even I’ve known new ones to be a dicky unit.

      Was us3dbut of a low Millage and was tested. Got a other that they sent me so will get that checked tomorrow. Rather try a used one espesipey the rides new for these turbo ones

        Think you need to test for battery drain, could be you have a short somewhere that is killing the alternator. disconnect earth and connect an ammeter between battery and earth should be less than 0.5 amp once system settles down (15-20 secs)

          Cheers al give that a go so just connect the metre to the battery earth and the earth cable disconnected from the battery

            Yes, will initially read high as system powers up but should settle after a few secs. Make sure everything is off, ignition radio etc and all doors closed

              Good call, I had a recurring flat battery from an internal boot light not switching off.

                    Have the starter motor checked,this also has a main feed from the battery.

                        But DO NOT try starting car while ammeter is connected cus if its only rated at 10 amp it will smoke.

                          Got it tested today alternator not charging. Got another alternator tested that I have and came up as charging fine so get that fitted.
