If HIDs are suitable for the car and correctly installed they should pass an MoT.

If you fail an MoT on HIDs then your headlamp beam is not suitable for road use, possibly dazzling other drivers. Maybe you don't care cos it's cool, innit?

Technically if HID's are fitted to a Halogen Lamp it is an automatic fail. Though probably most testers would let it go as long as the beam image was okay.

The Testing Manual says An existing halogen headlamp units shouldn’t be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.
The rfr is 4.1.4.c Light source and lamp not compatible Major fail

That would be okay but HID lamps have a ‘DCR’ mark on the headlamp lens or body, If you have headlamp washers fitted after september 2009..they must work as well

                    you can always go led.....
                    see my thread

does anyone know if the insignia A pre facelift has projector headlights accross the range using both halogen and xenon's, just wondering if the users that have passed MOTs with HID conversion kits are using halogen projectors lamps.

maybe vauhall designed the headlight this way to make is cheaper and easier to upgrade the std bulbs for the vxline/vxr

As far as I know, the only pre-facelift A's with projector headlights are those fitted with Adaptive Forward Lighting, such as the Elite model
