My 4yr old insignia deisel was serviced last week by Arnold Clark. This week the above message keeps showing on instrument panel. Has the techie forgotten to cancel the service due warning?

Service vehicle soon normally means there is an issue with the engine and has nothing to do with scheduled maintenance. So as Howy said, it should be check on engine error codes.

The SVS message is normally a fault within the electrical systems, it could be something minor but also the warning to bigger problems, get a diagnostics on it for the error codes, and dont rush into being fooled its gonna cost you an arm and a leg, i have been driving with SVS light and the codes said glow plug failure, but the glow plug is fine and after searching for info came across a Technical Service Bulletin issued by Vauxhall saying that the code gets thrown up because the sensor on the glow plug collects carbon by where the sensor is built into the glow plug and the ECU parameters are to narrow so it throws up the svs just because the plugs have carbon deposits, so check before forking out money needlessly!

as above, 'service vehicle soon' is a poorly worded warning, it has nothing to do with servicing the vehicle, it means a fault has been detected and requires plugging in to diagnose.
