  • Aircon help

    Hi,

Looking for some advice before I take my car back to the dealer its a 2014 cdti 58k on the clock, I got my aircon regassed by Vauxhall about a month ago and they checked for leaks and regassed it and told me there was no leaks and my aircon was working great. Over the last week if my car interior is cold (1st thing in the morning or late at night) my aircon works great but if the inside of my car is warm then my aircon doesn't get very cold.
I use the climate control and if I put the temperature down the blower just goes on higher and doesn't seem to get any cooler?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Thanks.

You haven't got recirculation on have you?

I dont know why but I always thought was better to have it on recirc, but the auto setting on Vauxhall does not switch recirc on. To be honest never tried the air con in this car on recirc as works great on auto.

No but I've tried it with recirc on and off and still the same, I just took out the pollen filter to check it and it looks like it could do with being changed i've knocked the crap out of the filter but i've ordered I new one from eurocarparts and i'll get it tomorrow.

I checked the air flap is operating when I had the glovebox out and it is moving freely when I put the recirc on and off and also when I change the temperature.

The aircon compressor is engaging when I put the aircon on does this mean that the pressure in the system is ok?
If I had a leak and it had lost pressure would that stop the compressor from spinning when i turn it on?

Hello mark, in theory if low on gas the compressor will cut out . Depends on how low the pressure is .
Is the condensing fan working ? Are you getting water droplets from underneath the car if you leave the air con running ?
Also there should be an interior sensor which picks up the interior ambient temperature in the cabin and will regulate the temperature in the cabin, they normally look like a little grill , it maybe in the interior light trim , you could try and see if there is any fluff lodged in it , a soft brush or a hoover , just a thaught
Also if using the air con don't put recirc on till about 5 mins of use , because for the first 5 mins or so the air con is trying to lower the interior temperature with fresh air from outside, if you put recirc on first thing then it's just trying to lower the interior temperature with hot air .

I've just checked the interior sensor looks ok but the 2 fans behind the radiator don't go on when I put the aircon on should it come on straight away or after the engine our outside temperature goes up? I've checked all the fuses listed for the aircon and radiator fans in the user handbook I also put the aircon on and checked the voltage at the fan connectors and both are showing 0v. Is there a relay for the aircon\fan?

I've just driven to work with the aircon on for about 30 minutes and when I got to work and checked under my car and there is water dripping from round about the back centre between the engine and the car.
              Cheers.

Mine was the same---working when I got the car--then stopped--had a aircon test done and found it had a leak in the aircon rad[its right at the front]so it gets all the road crap at it--had any gas that was left in the system--very little--replaced the aircon rad and had it regassed---all working ok now---not a hard job to do either----Dave

As Dave above get it checked by a qualified F gas technician. Avoid quack fit or hellfords
Just to pin point , the cause , if the air con is full and no leaks then the compressor should kick in and condensing fan should start and run but not all the time .

Cheers I was going to take it into Arnold Clark but I'll get it checked by an aircon specialist.

Oh no don't take it to Arnold Shark unless you have deep pockets--most Auto aircon specialists will supply and fit---unless you can do it yourself----Dave

I got it regassed there as they were the cheapest and I got the car from them with 1 year warranty but I'll get it checked by an independent air-con specialist.

I've had the car for about 7 months they weren't interested in regassing it they said it wasn't covered.

There you go, Arnold shark typical service from them, you need to speak to the man in charge otherwise they will just fob you off, or email the head office and tell them that they are totally lacking in helping you with this problem - - Dave
