Coolant level should be on welding area

  • #2
Provided you are parked on level ground, the liquid level should more or less line up with the mid-seam. There is a fill line on the front of the tank, just above the seam, but it is sometimes hard to see. The line marks the maximum level. A little below the seam is ok, as long the level stays constant. Unless there is leakage, it should rarely need topping up between services. There should always be liquid visible in the tank.

That is low, almost towards the bottom. Top it up and keep checking on a daily basis, until you are happy there is no coolant leak.

Oil percentage is the oil quality not the amount of oil in the sump.

As above, service vechile soon means there is a fault code. Nothing to do with an actual service

Should be ok. Without checking the specific gravity beforehand, it is better to put in neat coolant anyway. Better too strong than too weak.

If you are going to buy a hydrometer, make sure you get one specifically calibrated for Coolant/Anti-freeze solutions.

Hydrometers are also available for testing the acid strength in lead-acid batteries, but these are of no use for testing coolant.

Tbh, I wouldn't bother. If you buy undiluted coolant additive of the correct type, just make up a 50/50 mix with de-ionised water (don't use tap water, or softened water).

You can also buy the coolant ready-to-use, which is what I use.

Most modern cars use a 50/50 blend as standard.

GM Longlife, Diesels hold 9 litres, Petrols between 5.6 & 7.3 litres and should be 50/50 with water
