Provided you are parked on level ground, the liquid level should more or less line up with the mid-seam. There is a fill line on the front of the tank, just above the seam, but it is sometimes hard to see. The line marks the maximum level. A little below the seam is ok, as long the level stays constant. Unless there is leakage, it should rarely need topping up between services. There should always be liquid visible in the tank.Elite ST 2.0i Auto. Power Red With All The Toys

If you are going to buy a hydrometer, make sure you get one specifically calibrated for Coolant/Anti-freeze solutions.
Hydrometers are also available for testing the acid strength in lead-acid batteries, but these are of no use for testing coolant.
Tbh, I wouldn't bother. If you buy undiluted coolant additive of the correct type, just make up a 50/50 mix with de-ionised water (don't use tap water, or softened water).
You can also buy the coolant ready-to-use, which is what I use.
Most modern cars use a 50/50 blend as standard.Elite ST 2.0i Auto. Power Red With All The Toys
