Air con re gassed but no joy

    Forum Key Rings
Hi all , any advice would be great , I went to halfords for a re gas on the ac , but it was still blowing warm air (did not charge me for this), I have checked fuses , I have it booked in at an air con specialist in morning and on the phone they said 9 out 10 insignias is the condenser , just wondered if any one else has suffered the same before I get there in morning

Quite a common thing on the Insignia---the condenser is right at the front of the radiator pack and gets all the rubbish off the road thrown at it-so you end up with some holes in it----not a bad job to do-----Dave

If you are going to do it yourself it will be about 70 for the condenser and new seals---then you have to get it regassed----depends on what the air con guy is going to charge you----there is a few threads on here about changing the condenser------Dave

they are supposed to remove all the remaining gas, then leave it on a vacuum for a short period,if the vacuum measurement falls during this test ,then they wont refill,as theres a leak. had my aircon serviced last weekend ,and it was on the vacuum test for 15 mins.luckily mine is ok ,no leaks

Places like halfrawds and quackfit just re-charge the A/C system ,they don't recover old refrigerant they don't vacuum, they don't add oil or dye , so they cannot test for leaks .they just take a before and after temperature reading from your air vents , no change then no charge .
    Correct way should be
    Initial system test
Check system components ( belts , condenser , compressor electrics )
Check internal system components ( flaps heating etc )
    Recover exsisting refigerant
    Vacuum A/C system
    Re-gas
Add oil and leak detection dye
    Leak test components
    Full post A/C test
But I always thaught if you are F gas registered , you were supposed to carry out a full , before and after leak test .
It's like me being a gas safe registered engineer , and not doing a tightness test , I would soon get , fined , and possibly inprisioned ..
