Changing the Oil & Oil filter– 2016 Vauxhall Insignia 1.4T Sri
Personally I prefer to have the engine warm (but not at running temperature)
Items needed –
• Correct oil for engine (4.5ltrs GM 5W-30 Fully Synthetic DEXOS 1),
• Oil Filter (with new rubber O-ring seal),
• Either a new sump plug or a new crush washer for the old sump plug.
• T45 Torx socket
1 – Jack up the car, place axel stands for added security (never work under the car whilst using the jack only)
2 – Remove the oil filler cap from the top of the engine, climb under the car and crack the sump plug using a T45 Torx socket but don’t undo it all the way, literally just a half turn.
3 – Grab your container that the old oil will be going into and place it under the sump plug, now undo the sump plug (try to keep hold of the plug so it doesn’t go into the container as you’ll have to fish it back out)
4 – Put the kettle on & make a brew
5 – After 5/10 minutes go back to the car, get under it and replace sump plug (either new plug or new washer on the old plug).
6 – Undo & remove the oil filter housing (right side of the engine) with a 23/24mm socket (I think), the oil filter is clipped in to the inside of the housing, just pull it off & replace with the new filter, remove the old rubber O-ring seal from the housing and replace with the new one (should come with the filter), before replacing the oil filter housing smear a little bit of oil on the new seal & the replace the housing.
7 – Add the new oil into the engine personally I add 4 liters straight away, replace the oil filler cap and then turn the engine on for 1 minute just to get the oil lightly warmed up & flowing through the engine, then turn the car off again & check the dipstick for the current oil level and top up to the Max level on the dipstick as required.
