  • Engine compartment schematic

As a driver of over 45 years, I used to roughly know my way around an engine compartment. The radiator and water pump at the front, four in-line block down the middle, spark plugs conveniently located at intervals along the block, carb(s) to right, and that was about it.

Since, oh I don't know, the 90s? we've got all the luxuries we want, power steering, Aircon, self adjusting doodlewhangers, and everything seems to be encased in plastic. Now when I open my bonnet the bits deemed 'important' by the manufacturers (screen wash filler, oil filler, maybe coolant header tank) are colour coded, the rest is just a sea of black plastic.

Does anyone have a schematic of the engine compartment of the Insignia B? It would be great to know what all those bits are for, even if you need an electronic diagnostic kit and a degree in mechanical engineering before you dare to tinker.

Yeah, remember the good old days of a simple engine bay. Anything broken could be rectified in minutes..I had a Marina 1.8 tc as my first car. God, how technology has changed...

And mechanics only charged half a crown an hour, with all the Swarfega you could eat and they'd open up the garage in t'middle of t'night just to fix yer motor car, wash the car wit' carbolic soap inside and out when they'd finished for free.

Post a picture and put some tags on the bits you want to know so people can comment

But you left out the long snakey thing between the brown sticky stuff stick and the front bit, and the bit that looks like a robot's arm on the left, and the box that's got all those pretty coloured Lego brick things in it, and the bit wrapped in Bacofoil, and... and where the hell is the engine???

Working from left the black box with the long dildo coming out from it has your air filter element in it
The other end of that dildo that goes under the bakofoil goes into your turbo ( if you have one ) if not then you don't .
The lego box hides your. Battery .
The box behind the lego box hides your engine compartment fuses
Then you have some long black hoses in the middle they look like induction hoses .
